Senior Director, Cecil Field
Jacksonville Aviation Authority
Bob Simpson serves as a Senior Director at the Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA). In this position he is primarily responsible for the operation, maintenance, long range planning, and capital development of one of Jacksonville’s four airports, Cecil Field.
Prior to being appointed to his current position, he served as Director of Aviation Management for the Authority. In this role he had operational oversight of Jacksonville International Airport, Cecil Field, Craig Airport and Herlong Airport. His first assignment with the Authority was as Airport Manger at Cecil Field, a former Naval Air Station which was closed in 1999 and transferred to the JAA for use as a civilian general aviation reliever airport. Before being employed by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority he served as project manager for the Mayor of Jacksonville’s Cecil Field Redevelopment Commission.
In addition to his duties as Aviation Management Director, he served as the JAA’s overall coordinator for Super Bowl 39 held in Jacksonville in February 2005. In this position he coordinated all airport related Super Bowl activities with the NFL, the teams, the Jacksonville Host Committee, airport tenants, numerous governmental agencies, and all airlines that served Jacksonville.
Bob retired from the U.S. Navy in 1994 having served twenty-four years as a Naval Flight Officer. His last assignment in the Navy was at Naval Air Station Jacksonville where he served as the Commander of the P-3 Aircraft Patrol Wing. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University, is married and has two children and five grandchildren.
