Cynde Covington
District Governor Elect

Cynde is a Charter Member (1999) and Past President 2000-2001 of the Rotary Club of Southpoint. In addition to continuing to serve her own club in various capacities, she is an active Rotarian on the District level. She served on a number of committees since 2002, including the Rotary Foundation, District Long Range Planning Committee, Awards Committee, and the District Youth Exchange Committee since 2006. She served as District Extension Chair 2003-2005 and as Assistant Governor from 2005-2008. Cynde is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Bequest Society member, and Paul Harris Society member.

In addition to Rotary, Cynde is active in her parish, the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. The Covingtons play guitar and serve as part of the contemporary music team. Additionally, they served on the Mission Commission, coordinated Memorable Meals for Mission to support youth mission trips, and headed up the church’s monthly Sulzbacher Ministry that prepares meals for the residents of the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless. She has served on the Vestry and as Planned Giving Chair for the church Foundation. In addition to church activities, she served on the Institutional Review Board for Shands Jacksonville, and is a graduate of the Leadership Jacksonville Class of 2001.

Cynde serves as part of the management team of Monument Leasing Corp., (commercial real estate) and RemSouth, Inc., (plumbing distribution), Covington/Wilkerson family businesses. Cynde is married to Barry Covington, Past President 1988-1989 of the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville. Barry is also a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Bequest Society member and a Paul Harris Society member and serves on the District Youth Exchange Committee. They consider themselves blessed to have Barry’s grown children: Laurie (husband Mike) and Brian (wife Sonia), living in the Jacksonville area. This allows Cynde and Barry to spend plenty of time with their grandchildren: Preston, Ashleigh, and Chase Hatsell. Their extended family includes youth exchange daughters Amelie, Nathy, and Mona and youth exchange son, Grunde.

Notes
Thanks to Franklin Beard and Joe Springer for organizing a terrific Career Day at Bishop Snyder High School. West Jax Rotarians were able to see 96 Interact members receive pins. GiGi Carroll was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. Believe it or not, she was speechless. Thanks to the 31 Rotarians who attended and spoke in the classrooms. We will be posting pictures from this fantastic event very soon.
