Notes
The meeting was called to order and David Cooksey spoke about the dictionary project and that sign-up sheets were available at each of the tables.
Phil Risley spoke about the football pool, that this week’s pool was on the table, and that Mark O’Steen won last week’s pool.
We will be ringing the Salvation Army kettle on December 18th and there will be a sign-up sheet for that.
Clint Dawkins spoke about the clay shooting and how we finished last, so therefore, we got a bottle of old crow.
Tommy Grimes gave a special presentation whereby Clint Dawkins received a multi Paul Harris Fellow, as well as attained major donor status. Also, Cameron Johnson was presented a Paul
Harris Fellow by his father.
The speaker was Bill Griffin who spoke about the Rotary Foundation. Bill is the District Foundation Chairman and he gave a presentation regarding future vision. He spoke about the Bill Gates $355 million dollar matching grant and that the Rotary Foundation is focused on doing good in the world, especially in the areas of health, education, and the prevention of poverty. Rotary projects are looking to have bigger impacts, sharper focus, more local decisions, more partnering between clubs, and to attempt to simply the grant process.
The focus of the grants of the foundation center around peace, decease prevention, clean water, child health, education and literacy. The bigger impact would be by having no matching grants of not less than $15,000 for a global grant.
Also, Bill spoke about district grants and how the district grant for our district was $157,000 for projects. Our district, 6970, has raised $800,000 + and we are trying for $1 million dollars to the Rotary Foundation.
Bill emphasized that clubs should get to know one another in the district and work together on projects, especially smaller projects, so that they have a bigger impact for Rotary and Rotary funds.
Bill urged all of the clubs to be innovative and to come up with projects to help the Rotary Foundation’s mission.
