Meeting Notes
President Scheu reminded all about the District Conference May 6, 7, 8, 2011. He also mentioned District Assembly on Saturday.
President Scheu also mentioned the pledge cards for the Patient Van for St. Vincent’s. If you have not already made a pledge, please do.
Randy Thornton introduced our guest speaker, Michael Aubin of Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital. The hospital was established in 1955, but began in 1951 when the Wolfson Family established a Pediatric Service. Not only does the hospital service Jacksonville and surround area, it encompasses Savanna, Tallahassee and Daytona. At present the population of children covered is 857K and by 2015 is expected to be 935K.
The ethic break down is:
White: 69%
Black: 22%
Hispanic: 6%
Other: 3%
75% are eligible for Insurance. Market Share for Children is 80% and neonatal is 40%. Medicaid is 52.6% and Non pay is 4.2%. The key partners for Wolfson’s is Nemours, UF Jacksonville, Mayo and NE Florida Pediatric Society. Wolfson’s currently services 185 Beds and the plan is 199 by 2012.
Plans are for:
- Surgery Expansion: Heart and Neurology
- Imaging - Tesla MRI
- Cardiac Catheterization
- Day Hospital for out patient care
New Strategic plans include:
- Focus on Children’s Advocacy
- Coordinated care for kids
- Chronic Needs
- Increase capacity and services for NE Florida and S Georgia

Thanks to the volunteers who participated in our Adopt-A-Highway project on Saturday April 2, 2011. Participants were Chuck Wintz, Cathy Cold, Joe Myers, Mark Hulsey (grandson Adam Lamb), Drew Story, Jim Riggan, Mike Crumpler, Chris Bergey, Guy Leary, Tim Viverette and Terry Vereen. It was a huge success with 12 volunteers
